WHO PARTICIPATED BATTLE?
Soldiers were people who fought in battle. these included knights, foot soldiers, archers, pikemen and cavalry. Foot soldiers Foot soldiers were regularly, poorly trained soldiers that wielded swords, axes, clubs and spears. The majority of an army was usually made up of foot soldiers. Foot soldiers wore medium strength armour and were situated behind pikemen at the front of the army. Pikemen Pikemen were soldiers that carried pikes. Pikes were long spears that were thrust against enemy foot soldiers and cavalry. There were generally two lines of pikemen, the first defending upwards and the second behind the first, protecting them. Pikemen usually wore medium strength armour, and were situated at the front of an army. Archers Archers were soldiers that carried bows and arrows, crossbows or arbalests. They were ranged troops that fired projectiles at the enemies. They usually were situated at the back of the army and wore light/medium armour. Cavalry Cavalry were armed soldiers on horses.Cavalry were usually trained knights. Cavalry could carry a range of different weapons, including swords, axes, mauls and lances. Cavalry usually wore medium/heavy armour. They were usually situated amongst the foot soldiers, or at the front of the army. Knights Knights were heavily armoured and skilled soldiers that carried similar weapons to the foot soldiers and cavalry. Knights were usually mounted on horses. It took up to 30 years to become a knight. Young boys were chosen around the age of seven to start training. |
